New flat

June 6, 2006 at 10:49 am (Uncategorized)

I am now officially a homeowner, having last week completed on my flat. I celebrated this momentus occassion by cleaning out the cuboards and spending two hours at Wandsworth Council trying to register as a resident. The next four days were spent, with my dad cleaning and painting the flat. I also managed to get a new radiator fitted and get a couple of quotes for a new glass roof for my conservatory (anything to make it look less like a greenhouse). Next job is to give the carpets an industrial clean – it's only a matter of time before I find myself wandering around with a tool-belt…

Anyone out there into The Broken Family band? Saw them last week at the Water Rats, and while it was not the best gig I've seen them play, I did manage to have a quick chat with the singer (anyone know his name?) which was fun. I like his liberal use of the 'C' word – very refreshing…

Tony's Cafe was recently described on another blog, eggbaconchipsandbeans, as "a bastion of ungentrification in Nappy Valley", which in itself is utterly refreshing, but also a great place to get stuck into a cracking fry up. It was, therefore, with great sorrow (I was almost in tears) that I wandered down on Sunday morning for a special with chips, only to discover that Tony had decided to close for the weekend. Perhaps he was visiting family in Cyprus? Perhaps he was vetting his suppliers? Perhaps he just fancied a lie in? Either way, me and four mates were forced to make do with the efforts of the nearby All Bar One, which, to be honest wasn't bad – still not a match on Tony's though. Anyone able to shed some light on this, there's only so much dissapointment a man can take…

am getting very excited about my impending move to Sw11 – hopefully will be in by the end of May. Am looking for decent dining/chairs room table, a sofa and a couple of chairs. Am loathed to do the old DFS thing – anyone got any good suggestions on where I can get some nice looking furniture (either new or second hand)……anything classic, particularly with a modernist twist…

Pressure point

April 27, 2006 at 8:28 am (Uncategorized)

Sped over to Shepherds Bush last night to catch the wonderful Zutons at the Empire – cracking performance they seemed really up for it. Only dissapointment were the heathen bouncers who seemed intent on beating up anyone who looked as if they might be enjoying themselves. Long gone are the days when after a spot of crowd surfing you would be firmly (but not fiercely) pulled from atop and told to "clear off". Going on last night's evidence you can now expect a couple of jabs in the ribs and even a slap round the chops before being manhandled out of the auditorium. And even once you're out you can still find yourself on the receiving end of a few punches – as we entered we saw two bouncers laying into someone. One was holding him against a wall the other was systematically punching him in the stomach. They eventually left him, staggering and with blood coming from his grazed head. Bouncers are tossers.

Hello World!

April 20, 2006 at 9:50 am (Uncategorized)

In the words of Alan Whicker "hello world!". Over the course of the next few months I plan to chronicle the goings on of SW11 (London). I have lived in the area for the last few years and have recently bought a flat. My aim is to provide anyone who can be arsed with snippets of life in and around Clapham Junction. From a menu change at Tony's Cafe to amusing anecdotes from Mike at The Eagle, this is where it's at….
